Way back in the 1990s, if you wanted to modify your Ford truck there weren’t a lot of great options. Those front suspensions use I-beams, and while they’re great for a stock vehicle, they’re not the best when you want to lower one.
But there was a company with a solution, and they make a ton of parts for other makes and models as well. They’re called DJM Suspension, and they’re this week’s Brand Spotlight.
Ford’s tough.
Let’s go back to those I-beams for a second. These were the go-to front suspension component in a Ford truck, both fullsize and Ranger, and they held the steering knuckle on one end and the coil kind of in the middle. While you could do all the usual things like bag a Ford and all that, the arm was so long and the knuckle didn’t have a ball joint to allow it to articulate, giving the truck crazy camber. It looked neat sometimes, but most of the time you just thought a lowered F–150 was broken.
DJM came up with the Dream Beam and sorted out a lot of problems. For example, this set of Ford F–250/F–350 1987–1998 DJM 3" Drop Dream Beams gave you three inches of drop in the front and that helped with the camber issues a ton. Now you can lower your older Ford without stressing about tire wear.
They don’t just do Fords, though.
DJM makes a lot of other cool parts for other makes and models, too. It’s not too often that you see a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD 1999–2006 DJM 3/5 Lowering Kit, but DJM has one. It’s still got the slots for the torsion bars and yet gives you that 3/5 drop that looks just about perfect on NBS Chevy trucks. And it’s a four-wheel drive. Doesn’t get much weirder than that.
They also make some good shocks, too. If you had the same NBS Chevy as before, you could get these Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD 1999–2006 DJM Front SuperShock 14.5" Stem / Loop shocks. That particular one is for the rear passenger side, and works with the kit to give you a smooth ride on your lowered 4WD. Again, that’s pretty cool stuff.
Look to DJM.
They’ve been around for decades and are still making cool and functional stuff. That’s just one reason why we like DJM Suspension so much, and we’ll continue to use their parts.
If you need something to lower your truck, be it a Ford, Chevy, or something else, check out what DJM has to offer. You might be surprised and all the good stuff they have on tap.
