Experience Unmatched Comfort: The Benefits of Air Suspension

Before air suspension took over the custom car and truck industry, we had coilovers, lowering springs, air shocks and, the big one, hydraulics. But all of those options had their drawbacks. You could have adjustable height with coilovers, but not on the fly. Hydraulics could ride nicely with accumulators, but fine tuning them was difficult. And air shocks were a good idea, but you couldn’t do them well on a big truck.

Today’s air suspension, from individual air bags to air struts, are worlds apart from the options of the past. And the best part about it? The ride. Man can it be comfortable.

Fine Tune Your Ride

A stock car or truck that uses a coil spring has a set spring rate, which is the amount of weight it takes to compress a spring by one inch. This means your ride quality is determined by the spring rate and the shock absorbers, and unless you change one or the other out, you’ll never get the feeling you want.

Air bags have a variable spring rate. Every time you add air to the air bag the spring rate goes up because it takes more weight to compress the spring — in this case, the air bag — one inch. So if your ride is feeling a little stiff, you can drop a few PSI out of the bags and cruise just the way you like. That’s pretty awesome.

Even better, you can also fine tune this with the right shocks. Take these Ridetech HQ models, for example. These have rebound adjustments built in so you can dial in how well your car or truck handles and how soft it rides. It’s the perfect pairing, and we have lots of other shock options available, too.

It Rides So Nice

How good does it ride? Good enough to be on your daily driver, that’s for sure.

If you have a custom car or truck, you know there are a lot of things that can change the way your vehicle handles. If you have low-profile tires, it gets stiffer but can handle better. If you have a bigger engine, it can get floaty in the front. But with air suspension, all of those variables can be managed. If the tires are too stiff, soften the shock adjustments and/or lower the PSI in your bags. Heavy motor? Bump up the PSI up front but keep the back down so it rides evenly. You have almost infinite adjustability, so why not take advantage of that?

The Best is Yet to Come

Is your ride bagged yet? If not, now’s the time to get it going. We have lots of parts in stock for your vehicle right now, and our sales staff has the know-how to help you get what you need. And, if you need help with installation, we have that covered, too.
