The Versatility of Adjustable Ride Height: Why it Matters

While we sell air bags and install air bag suspension kits all the time, our customers aren’t always in the same demographic. You might think we only have guys with trucks come through our doors, but we do see a lot of people who want an adjustable suspension for other reasons.

As it turns out, having a car that goes up and down is more than about just looking cool.

Getting a Lift Up (or Down)

Have you seen how tall trucks are nowadays? If you buy a new Silverado, the top of the bed is chest high or taller, depending on your own stature. While this can be inconvenient, we usually just deal with it because we like the extra ride height. But what if dealing with it wasn’t an option?

There are many people with mobility issues out there in the world. Sometimes it’s genetic; a condition rears its head and you find yourself unable to move the way you expect. Maybe age has taken its toll and you want something bigger, but can’t get in as easily as you used to. For others, it’s more severe, requiring the use of a wheelchair or walker. No matter what situation you or they might be in, if getting into a taller vehicle is a problem, airbags can provide a solution.

Because you can lower a vehicle’s ride height with air bags or coilovers, you can position your ride height where it’s easiest to access. For example, we once had a customer who had a back injury and was paralyzed from the chest down. He bagged his truck because he could install a lift in the bed to move his chair in for storage, and it was easier for him to get in from the lower height. Sure, it looked cool, but for him this was also about the freedom to go where he wanted, and that was worth everything.

Carrying an Extra Load

You’ve probably seen a wheelchair-capable van in the wild before, like a Honda Odyssey with tall ground effects and a ramp in the back. Whatever it takes to get a wheelchair onboard is done.

But sometimes those wheelchairs are fully electric and very heavy. You need extra load carrying capacity in those situations, and air bags are usually the perfect choice. It doesn’t have to be a mobility device like a scooter, either. Sometimes you just need the capacity for extra stuff in your truck bed because the stock suspension can’t handle it. That’s what rear bag helper kits are for.

Adjustable Ride Height Matters

Not every customer wants a cool car or has to slam their truck on the ground. Sometimes, having an adjustable ride height is the difference between leaving the house or not. Having the freedom to get around in something accessible to you and your situation is important, and something we take pretty seriously.

If you’re in a scenario where having an adjustable ride height vehicle would help you out, give us a call, send us an email or just stop by the shop. Let’s figure out what we can do to get your car, truck or SUV dialed in the way you need it so you can get the extra mobility you want.
