What is the Air Lift Performance ALP4?

What is the Air Lift Performance ALP4?

It’s been quite a long time since we’ve seen any major innovations in the air suspension market, but now, with the introduction of Air Lift Performance’s ALP4, it lwe’re going to move a big step forward.

As of right now, we've got these products in stock and ready to ship. But what do you get by upgrading? Let's dive in and find out.

What is the ALP4?

The ALP4 is a new take on the Air Lift Performance 3P system. That is to say it’s a pressure based air management setup that allows you to set pre-determined ride heights for your vehicle based on the air pressure in each corner of your air suspension. You can also upgrade the kit to run height sensors, making it equivalent to the Air Lift Performance 3H.

Now neither of those things are revolutionary by themselves, and many other companies — including Accuair — do the same thing. But now there are a ton of improvements.

The ALP4 is a HUGE upgrade.

Let’s start with the obvious physical features. The ALP4 includes a new ECU with a faster processor — 3.5 times, actually — than the previous model, and it has 20 times more RAM. Just like before, the ECU is also part of the valve manifold, and it also incorporates the pressure switch and has hidden hardware. The thing gets bright thanks to its integrated LED lighting, and you install the Air Lift Performance badge in the orientation you want, which is also pretty cool.

Now let’s talk about the controller, which is a huge improvement. First off, it’s got a 3.5-inch full-color screen. It’s still wired (no Bluetooth that we’ve heard of), but the case is now anodized aluminum and you can configure the physical buttons yourself. Of course, you can also just use the app, which now pairs with the stronger wireless transmitter in the ECU to allow you to control the suspension with your phone. Speaking of, there’s now a “Show Mode” that lets you use the system with the vehicle off for a single ignition cycle, or take advantage of Standby Mode, where you can use the system for a user-specified period of time.

The performance improvements are great.

If you’ve ever had an Air Lift 3H/3P or an Accuair e-Level+, you know there are times when the system seems to be hunting around for the correct ride height. The ALP4 adds calibrated adjustment tolerance so there’s less of that and more accuracy. You can also enable pulsed motion. This allows you to have more controlled movements at critical heights, and the adjustable pulse rate lets you fine tune how quick you go up or down. All of this is paired with an improved road filtering algorithm, so you’re at the right height at the right time with less adjusting.

But what about the health of your system? You can do a compressor performance test with the ALP4, which allows you to benchmark how well your compressor is doing today and compare that against future or past tests. And have you ever felt annoyed when you’ve turned the key and your compressor fires up instantly? That can be hard on your electrical system, and the ALP4 lets you adjust that time from 5 to 30 seconds.

Upgrades galore.

OK, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but still, this kit does have some add ons.

For one, you can upgrade with the Air Lift pressure to height sensor upgrade kit. This is actually the same kit that they had previously for the 3P setup, and that brings with it another nice feature. Since the ALP4 uses the same height sensors and wiring harness for those sensors, if you already have a 3H setup you can swap it out for the ALP4 and be good to go. All you have to do then is wire up the new controller.

The ALP4 allows you to hook up a single compressor to the system, but now if you want to connect a second, it’s as easy as ordering an Air Lift second compressor harness. Again, these are the same as the existing ones, so if you want to upgrade from a 3P/3H and already have the second compressor set up, you're covered.

How much does the Air Lift Performance ALP4 cost?

There are two versions of the ALP4 right now, and they break down like this:

And with both of those you can add height sensors or a second compressor for an additional cost.

If you already have a 3H/3P setup and you want to upgrade, you can get this:
